Trumpets

Samoan language week

Samoan language week has been launched. It was launched on the 26th of May at Pt England school.

We had a blast watching preschoolers sing and dance. They sang in samoan so I didn't know what they were singing but I think it was the national anthem. we asked a question to the teacher that was teaching them. How hard was it to teach preschoolers to sing in samoan? She said it wasn’t very hard.

Next was Tamaki college samoan group. They sang clapped and danced too. They were good. They sang and danced 3 songs. Afterwards we asked them some questions. Like when did the teacher that teaches them start teaching samoan language and songs. He said roughly 15-20 years ago.

It was a fun start to the samoan language week and I hope you had a good time reading it.

Quiz article T2 W4 (Term 2 Week 3)

Prince Charles got himself in trouble yesterday. He was in a visit to the Museum of Immigration in Nova Scotia. He was talking about things that were in the 1930’s - 1940’s with Marienne Ferguson and he’s Polish. He then couldn’t keep his mouth shut and called Polish people hitlers. The amount of polish people around the world heard about this quickly. They all got upset. They are now trying to fine Prince Charles for a bill.

Sound explanation

Sound, Sound is a weird phenomenon that can be strange at some times, like when it changes the pitch and how fast it goes in different temperatures.

Sound works in many different ways. The first thing that happens is that an object has to vibrate or move. Then the object pushes the air molecules and they bump into each other sending waves of sound. These waves travel 324 m/s. they then locate an animal or human ear and go into the ear, goes to the eardrum makes the eardrum vibrate and sends a clear electrical signal into the nervous system system and goes to the brain.

Sound can change very easily It depends on frequency, the temperature and if there is air around you. The frequency changes because of the pitch or how high or low the sound is. The temperature changes how fast sound goes. If it is -55 oC sound would go slower than if it was 55 oC. For sound to travel it needs air, so in space there is no sound because there is no air.

Did you know that you can break the speed of sound? Its when an object or vehicle travels faster than the speed of sound so the sound waves catch up to one another breaking the speed of sound.

Sound is a weird thing it can change so fast and so little and you can break the speed of sound.

Term 2 Week 3 quiz article

Three room mates bought a lumpy old sofa for $55. One of the room mates thought it was too lumpy so they opened up a pillow and found envelopes on envelopes filled with money. When they all counted it up it added up too $40,800.

They were screaming and their neighbors thought that they had just won the lottery. When a person called Guasti came to their door and asked for all the money she had in the couch they gave it back because spending it would just feel wrong.

Week 2 Term 2 quiz

An Auckland primary school closed down of asbestos dust around and in the construction site. The construction started on the 7th of April. Both the Ministry of Education and Worksafe NZ are both are investigating the construction site.

Worksafe NZ has stopped any further work on the construction site. Further tests will come later for making sure the asbestos dust is not outside the school. The kids are hopefully going to be back at school early next week.

Echo-location

Echo-location is where an animal such as a bat or dolphin emits a sound. The sound then hits an object and ricochets back. The bat hears it and is able to locate where the echo came from and how close it is. Marine mammals, bats and some birds use echolocation.

Echo-location is a sound wave emitting from a bat. If something is in the way of the sound wave it would bounce off it and return to the bat/mammal that emitted it. The bat can now determine how big and how far away the object is. The bigger the object the more sound would return from it. The time it takes for the echo to return from the object is how far away the object is.

Very few people use echolocation. However Ben Underwood, who had eye cancer at the age of 2 has taught himself to use echo-location. He knows his way around the house and can bike or roller-skate around the neighbourhood by making clicks from his mouth and hearing the echo. They even used him for scientific research.

Echo-location is the way that certain animals use their ears too see, not their eyes.

Back to School

On the 5th of May we went back to school and we had an assembly were we found out what our topic will be. Our topic is sound but the school-wide topic is science, we are all looking at different parts of science like team 3 is looking at light, team 2 is looking at heat, flight and team 4 is looking at thrust. At least that is what  got from the movies and shows they put on. I still don't know what team 1 is looking at, but they are going on a zoo trip on the 6th of May. My mum is teaching in team 1 so i'm sure I can get her to tell me what they are looking at and how the zoo trip went.

After the assembly we brainstorm bout science and sound. I was with Mohhammad, Damien and Wiremu. We brainstormed for the rest of the time 10 minutes till morning tea. Are brains are pooped and deserve morning tea, of course that didn't happen straight away we had to do ten minutes we spent writing blog posts. Then when the morning tea bell went we had to have typed 3 or more sentences so we can leave. Everyone was typing furiosly and when I was the only one standing up when the morning tea bell rang I was surpised, I thought that there would be at least 3 more people.
